PCP
member arrested in Khagrachari
A
member of the Hill Student’s Council (PCP) has been arrested
in Khagrachari today.
Mr.
Maung Prue Marma s/o Maung Kro Jai Marma was arrested
by soldiers from Bhuachari Army Camp from Bot-toli near
Khagrachari district town. The army cited his alleged
involvement in extortion as the reason for the arrest.
The
Khagrachari Unit leaders of the PCP ruled out the allegation
and said Maung Prue is innocent and lodges in a house
in Bot-toli as a private tutor. He hails from Babupara
of Mahalchari, the scene of a deadly settler attack in
August 2003.
Mr.
Marma is learnt to have been handed over to the police
in Khagrachari, but it is not clear whether any case has
been filed against him. His students went to the Khagrachari
police station to demand his release.
