34th
issue of the Swadhikar published
The
latest 34th issue of the Swadhikar, the mouthpiece of
the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) has
come out. (To read the latest issue of the Swadhikar Click
here or hit the “Bengali Section” button
on the left)
The
issue contains regular sections including news on latest
development in Sajek as well as on international campaign
activities.
One
of the two editorials deals with the coordinated serial
bomb blasts that rocked Bangladesh on 17 August and stresses
the need for a mass movement under the leadership of the
progressive forces of the country to defeat the Islamist
militants. It also attempts to provide a list of the causes
of the rise of the religious fanatics in the country.
The
other editorial titled “state terrorism in Chittagong
Hill Tracts” focuses on the role of the military
commanders and urges the government to strictly scrutinize
their activities and to stop state terrorism in CHT.
In
his article "My First Visit to Sajek and Experiences",
Ananda Prakash Chakma shares his valuable experience gained
during his first tour of Sajek, a remote mountainous area
bordering Mizoram of India. He gives a heart-rending description
of the fast depleting forests and the people living therein.
Mr.
Chakma visited Sajek second time this year and hopes that
he would be able to write about it in the next issues.
For
those who are on our mailing list or those who have already
visited our news section in the website, most of the news
in the Bulletin would seem stale and outdated. Yet, we
would advise them to read the Bengali version as some
of the news have been elaborated while others have not
appeared in English version.
