Day of Resistance against Traitors Observed
The front organisations of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) have observed 2 December – the day the CHT accord was signed in 1997 – as the Day of Resistance against Traitors.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Democratic Youth Forum, Hill Student’s Council and Hill Women’s Federation jointly organised a rally at Muktangon in Dhaka to mark the day. Presided over by Dipankar Chakma, president of CHT DYF, the rally was also addressed by Mithun Chakma, Sonali Chakma, Kyo Hla Ching Marma and Dipankar Tripura. Bangladesh Chattra Federation leader Mridul Kanti Das spoke in solidarity with the struggle of the Jumma people.
Terming the Accord as an instrument of surrender the leaders said it was signed by a cabal of traitors who did never consult the people before signing it.
In a leaflet issued on the occasion the three organisaitons called upon the people to resist the renegade Santu clique, who are the junior partners of the Dhaka government and opposed to intra-Jumma unity, and to establish national unity of the Jumma people.
The leaflet also alleged that in order to hang on to the Regional Council, the JSS leaders have kept up the fratricidal conflict, taken up arms against their own people and are shooting down their own brothers.
